Overview & Recaps of Charity Dodgeball Tournaments

Overview:

Each year Casco Bay Sports runs two Charity 3 v 3 Dodgeball Tournaments:  The Holiday Tournament (1st Week of December) & The Winter Challenge (Late February or Early March).  These tournaments bring players together from all divisions for one day of creative dodgeball action!  The format of 3 on 3 with four balls in play keeps the action rolling.   It is tradition that teams design unique team names & themes to match as they battle for a trophy and hooded sweatshirts.  After each event the proceeds are donated to select local non-profits.

December 4th, 2011 Holiday Tournament ($350 Donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters):

The Second annual 3v3 Holiday Tournament was again a great success.  The tournament featured 2 divisions with each playing 3 hours of pool play to get participants warmed up and seeded for the charity event.  The gym had a great atmosphere throughout the day with the late afternoon games having large crowds watching the action.  The highlight of the day came when 'Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins' captain Joe Auger took the 'B' division finals by storm landing throw after throw on target.  'A' division champions 'Blackout' defied the odds by climbing out of the consolation bracket to win the Holiday Tournament.  Thanks to all who came to donate and play!

March 5th, 2011 Winter Challenge ($300 donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters):

The Second annual 3v3 Winter Challenge Boasted two divisions this year creating highly competitive match ups all day long.  The 'B' division crown went to 'It's all about the balls'  captained by PDL legend Jack Coggeshall.  The 'A' division went to 2 time champion Dirty Shamrocks, formerly known as Grinch Balls.  The veteran team seemed to be at ease with the bracket this time around never looking challenged until the second match up with Balls on Tap who were able to push the finals to Game 6.  Thanks to everyone who came out to play and helped raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters!

December 4th, 2010 Holiday Tournament ($300 donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters):

The first annual 3v3 Holiday Tournament took place December 4th 2010.  This was our second 3v3 tournament of the year with team themes and costumes galore.  The tournament started with 3 hours of pool play  and finished with a single elimination bracket.  Returning teams like 'Skin Sensation' and 'Balls on Tap' led by example on the court breezing through their first round games with confidence and strategy.  One highlight of the first round was the upset of 'Spinach Factory' by the savvy Tuesday team 'Ball out War'.  The semi finals had Grinch Balls playing Skin Sensation and Ball out War facing Balls on Tap.  Grinch Balls dominated Skin Sensation like Whos in Whoville while Balls on Tap warmed up their arms for the finals on a fatigued 'Ball out War' team.  With the finals set the buzz around the gym grew as the first game began.  Grinch Balls stunned Balls on Tap with a quick 2 - 0 lead.  By the time Balls on Tap started locating their throws Grinch Balls had found a comfortable rhythm methodically singling out their opponents, waiting for a moment of weakness and knocking them out.  It was a great example of team Dodgeball and the perfect way to end another successful tournament!

February 13th, 2010 Winter Challenge Recap ($515 donated to Konbit Sante):

"Our first annual 3 v 3 Dodgeball Winter Challenge took place on February 13th, 2010.  It was an epic day of action that brought together players from each night.  There was a great vibe in the gymnasium all day...some teams hung out and some made several trips to the GLB for specials on drinks in between rounds.  The Final was a great matchup between NDW & It's Not Your Fault....with the victory going to It's Not Your Fault.   We were able to donate $515 to the Portland non profit group Konbit-Sante as a result of the 22 teams coming together that day.  Thanks to all who participated!"
